Skip has served over 37 years in the US Air Force, retiring as Lt. Colonel with a world record of 1,072 combat flight hours, and received 37 combat decorations. He spent 16 years as an engineering test pilot team member for Lockheed Aircraft Skunk Works division; piloted propeller-driven and jet aircraft in air shows; and worked as a stunt pilot, advisor, and aerial coordinator on more than 45 movies, television shows, and commercials. He has worked for Bede Jet Corporation, Platforms International Corporation, Advanced Concepts, and Bear Aero Space, Inc., and is now president of Bear Aircraft, LLC. He has logged over 15,000 hours of flight time.

Skip has competed in the Reno Unlimited Air Race since 1981. He was Gold Winner in 1981, 1984, 2000, and 2003. He was also Gold Winner in 1984 of the Canadian Unlimited International Air Race and Winner in 2002 and 2003 of the Nellis Air Race. Skip set the World Closed Course Speed Records in 1981, 2002, 2003, and 2004 for reciprocating propeller-driven aircraft. He set the World Unlimited Closed Course Qualifying Records in 1981 and 2002; the Reno Race Gold Speed Record in 1984; the World Unlimited Closed Course lap Record in 2003; the World Ultimate Closed Course Race Records Average in 2003; and the Reno Race Gold Speed Record in 2003. He won the Pulitzer Trophy from the National Aeronautics Association; the 2003 Thompson Trophy for a World Speed Record flight, and Thompson Trophy for record speed at the 2001 Reno Races.

Skip has also won numerous civilian flight awards, including the Kiddie Hawk Living Legend of Aviation Award, the Congressional Civilian National Aviators Award, and the California State Medal.

Skip is the most proud of his role as husband to Keri Dede Holm, superhero of the planet; step- Dad to Sgt. Christopher Wilson, USAF, Luke AFB and to Krystal, mother to a getting there baby-pilot; Dad to Lieutenant Jeffery Sky Holm, US Coast Guard, now Captain of his very own Coast Guard ship, Key West FL and to Ashley Brooke Holm, better known as Afterburner (abbreviated AB), a wonderful young lady, talented music composer, and excellent student just graduated from University of California Irvine.

Skip earned his BS in Aeronautical Engineering from North Dakota State University, his MS in Aeronautical Engineering/ from University of Southern California, and his MS in Aviation & Space Engineering and Flight Test from USAF Test Pilot School. He is a member of the Living Legends, the Society of Experimental Test Pilots, the Unlimited Air Racing Division, the National Air Racing Group, the Air Racing Unlimited Organization, the National Aeronautics Association, many other flying associations, and numerous community groups.
